Dr. Jiang has long been dedicated to better understanding of the pathophysiological bases of neuronal injuries and discovery of new CNS therapies. During his early career, he had five-year R&D experience in pharmaceutical industry after he received his MS degree in Biochemistry in China. Realizing that he could not advance his career without a PhD, he came to the U.S. in 2004 and received research training in neuroscience and pharmacology as a PhD student with Marie Wooten at Auburn University and as a postdoctoral fellow with Ray Dingledine at Emory University School of Medicine. In January 2015, Dr. Jiang started his first independent academic position at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, where he was also a faculty member in the Center for Pediatric Neuroscience at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He then joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in July 2018. Dr. Jiang’s research has led to more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and five patents. As a PI, Dr. Jiang has been continuously funded by federal and/or non-federal funding agencies since 2012 and received a number of awards including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) and NARSAD Young Investigator Award.
